Bhairahawa register easy victory; Baitadi go to top with win

Kathmandu/Cricnepal: Region Number IV Bhairahawa and Region Number VI Baitadi started the group B matches of the Wai Wai U-19 National Cricket Tounament with a win here today.

Bhairahawa defeated Region Number VII Janakpur by a huge margin of 122 runs while in the another match Baitdai edged Region Number V Nepalgunj by four wickets.

With the middle order batsman contrbuting good runs, Bhairahawa totalled 198 runs in 45.4 overs losing all wickets.

Bhairahawa who chose to bat at TU Ground, had a terrible start as both the openers Susan Bhari and Nirmal Thapa felt off short runs. The number three batsman Kiran Pandey holded some overs towards the batting side and guided the team to 85 for 4. Krishna Sen went caught before Pandey. Pandey made a 56 – ball 27 including four fours before falling prey to Abhishek Jha. Bhairahawa then kept on scoring quick runs, managed to score single and the middle order batsman played their part. Rabindra Thapa came into bat at five and scored 45 runs off 80 deliveries hitting six fours. Thapa rescued the side from 85-5 to 128-6 after sharing a 43 runs partnership with Saurav Khanal. Khanal later scored 43 runs off 51 deliveries with six fours before being sent cuaght. Man Bahadur Thapa added 20 off 30 while Iklakh Ahmed Warsi made 11 off 17.

Abhishek Jha remained the pick of the bowlers with four wickets. Jha had a figure of 4 for 37 in 10 overs. Gopal Singh claimed three wickets, Mukesh Jha picked two while Sameer Nepal had a scalp.

In reply, a fine bowling attack from Bhairahawa restricted Janakpur to a low 86 runs. Janakpur lost all wickets in 36 overs while only four of the Janakpur’s batsman managed to score a double figure. Sameer Nepal top scored 16 runs while Rahul Pratap Singh added 14. Chandan Jha scored 13 off 43 balls and Mukesh Jha made 11 runs off 33 balls. Janakpur were lucky to have 26 runs as extras though.

Bivek Chaudhary and Iklakh Ahmed Warsi grabbed three wickets each while Devendra Somare and man of the match Saurav Khanal picked up two wickets each for Bhairahawa.

At Pulchowk, Baitadi went into field as Nepalgunj won the toss. Man of the match Binod Lama completed five wickets haul while Saurav Chand picked up three wickets and Santosh Bhatta and Mahesh Singh shared a scalp each as Nepalgunj was restricted to a respectable total of 147 runs in 39 overs which Baitadi chased in 27.3 overs losing six wickets.

Pratik Hamal top scored with 27 runs off 57 balls including three fours. Rupes Sharma and Ashok Kafle made 18 runs each. Wasim Halwai scored 15 runs, Inamuddin Halwai made 14 runs while Sanam Shrestha and Bhupendra Thapa scored 11 and 10 runs respectively.

In Baitadi’s chase, opener Surendra Chand played a brilliant role with bat as he scored 47 runs off 45 balls including six fours and a six. After Dilip Nath was stumped at the team score of 11, Chand guided team with the partnership of 75 runs for second wicket with Chandan Rawal. Rawal scored 24 off 39 hitting three fours. Baitadi though lost their six wickets at the score of 117 runs, Santosh Bhatta and Dipendra Airee shared an winning partnership of 31 runs. Bhatta remained unbeaten at 20 runs off 28 deliveries with two fours while Airee remained not out at 16 runs off 16 balls including three fours.

With the win, Baitadi lead the points table with better net run rate. Bhairahawa who also have the equal two points are in second position. Baitadi have the net run rate of +2.441 while Bhairahawa have +2.24.

On Monday, Bhairahawa will take on Nepalgunj at TU Ground while Janakpur will face Baitadi at Engineering Ground, Pulchowk.
