Biratnagar and Nepalgunj enter semi final

Cricnepal/Kathmandu: Region Number 1 Biratnagar defeated Region Number 6 Baitadi by 60 runs in the last group stage match and entered the semi final of the Wai Wai Under 19 National Cricket Tournament on Monday. Biratnagar’s win also finalized Region Number 5 Nepalgunj’s spot in the semi final.

Biratnagar who chose to bat first winning the toss posted a good total of 230 runs losing eight wickets in 50 overs. Biratnagar lost their first wicket in third over while the second wicket partnership was of 65 runs between Amol Das and Mayanand Chaudhary who scored 34 and 52 runs respectively. Suman Shrestha added 39 runs as sixth wicket while Mukunda Yadav 21, Rohit SIngh 17 and Amit Dahal 11 were some other major contributors.

Yogendra Karki claimed three wickets, Bhim Sarki took two while Sivraj Swar and Prem Tamang grabbed a wicket each for Baitadi.

In reply, Biratnagar’s bowlers put Baitadi under pressure as Baitadi managed to score only 173 runs in 44.1 overs. Amit Dahal picked up four wickets while Kalicharan Yadav, Heman Rai and Mayanand Chaudhary shared two wickets each for Biratanagar.

During the chase, Dilip Nath top scored with 43 runs and also shared highest 92 runs partnership for fifth wicket with Bhim Sarki who later scored 37 runs. Prem Tamang 24, Sandeep Khadka 16 and Deependra Chand 10 were some other major scorers.

Mayanand Chaudhary from Biratnagar was adjudged the player of the match.

While from Group B Region Number 4 Bhairahawa finished as winner and Region Number 2 Birgunj finished runners up to enter semi final.

The first semi final between Biratnagar and Birgunj will be played on Tuesday and the second semi final between Nepalgunj and Bhairahawa will be played on Wednesday.
