CABN in Blind World Cup preparation; seeks fund

Kathmandu/Cricnepal: Cricket Association of the Blind, Nepal (CABN) is under a fine preparation for the  World Blind Twenty20 Cricket Tournament that is scheduled to begin in Bangalore, India from November 30.

The upcoming blind cricket world cup is the first ever world cup in T20 format, though three big world cup had already been organized in 1998 and 2002 in India and in 2006 in Pakistan.

The nine countries of the world including India,Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, England, Australia, South Africa, West Indies and Nepal will participate in the event.

After conducting selection matches for 5 days at Pulchowk engineering college ground, the selection committee have selected the top fourteen players. A total of 26 outstanding players round the country participated in the selection matches that was held from October 7-11.

Kritan Shrestha Duwal will lead the team as captain while Bikram Bahadur Rana has been appointed the vice captain.  Khimananda Gaireshanker Regmi will stand behind the wicket while the other members of the team include Surya Bhattarai, Jay Sagar Giri, Ram Prasad Paudel, Amar Oli, Durga Dutta Paudel, Rajendra Dhital, Sunil Chhetri, Santosh Sapkota, Jeevan Gurung, Bhagwati Bhattarai, and Rupa Baral.

Ganga Prasad Paudel is the coach of the team while Sugam Bhattarai has been appointed as the team manager. While the other officials include Pawan Ghimire, Ramesh Pokhrel, Amrit Baral and Deepak Sapkota.

Cricket Association of the Blind, Nepal was established in the year 2006 by few young and enthusiastic blinds in Nepal. Having more than four hundred and fifty players including in all twelve districts of Nepal, CABN bear the glorious record in the world for having more than 120 female blind women players and organize national level tournaments ever first time in the world.

CABN have so far organized four national level tournaments for the men and six national tournaments for the female.

Meanwhile, CABN is searching for funds to participate in the tournament. CABN have very less fund which may be insufficient for the preparation and expenses including the cost of the kits, dresses. So, we hereby request the people, corporate sectors and business houses to kindly support us and help us with the funding, says Major Pawan Ghimire who is the chairman of CABN.
