CAN announces Elite Cup squad

Kathmandu/Cricnepal: Cricket Association of Nepal(CAN) on Monday announced the squad for the ACC Trophy Elite Cup that is scheduled to be held in UAE from October 1 to 12.

No changes have been made in the current 14 member squad which played the ICC World Cricket League Division IV.

Paras Khadka will lead the team as the skipper while Gyanendra Malla has been appointed as the vice captain. Other players who made it in the final 14 include Sharad Vesawkar, Amrit Bhattarai, Shakti Gauchan, Basanta Regmi, Sanjam Regmi, Rahul Kumar Vishwakarma, Pradeep Airee, Anil Kumar Mandal, Prithu Baskota, Chandra Saud, Binod Das and Subash Khakurel.

Bhuwan Karki, Avinash Karn, Binod Bhandari and Krishna Karki has been kept as reserve. Mahesh Chhetri has been dropped from the reserve list while Mehboob Alam was once again not listed.

Nepal will face UAE on 3rd October at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah. Nepal will play Kuwait on 6th at Al Dhaid Cricket Village, Sharjah before taking on Saudia Arabia on 7th at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi. Nepal will play the last match of the group stage against Hong Kong on 9th at ICC Global Cricket Academy 1, Dubai.

The semi finals and play off matches will be played on 10th while the finals will be played on 12th.

Nepal had been placed in group B alongside Hong Kong, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and host United Arab Emirates while the group A comprises of the defending champion Afghanistan, Malaysia, Oman, Bhutan and Maldives.

Nepal had lost to Afghanistan in previous edition by 95 runs in the finals.

Meanwhile, CAN stated that the team will arrive home tomorrow at 11:15 AM via Malaysian Air.
