CAN bids farewell to Women’s Cricket Team

Cricnepal/Kathmandu: Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) bode farewell to the National Senior Women’s Cricket Team organizing a function in National Sports Council(NSC) on Sunday.

The team 17 members team will leave for Thailand via Thai Airways on Monday to participate in the ACC Women’s Championship that is scheduled to kick off in Chiang Mai, Thailand from 23rd of January.

Nepal placed alongside Hong Kong, Bhutan, Malaysia and UAE in group A will begin their campaign on Thursday playing against Bhutan. China, Thailand, Singapore, Kuwait, Iran and Qatar are the other teams in group B of the 25 overs per side tournament. The winner of the tournament progresses to the World Twenty20 Qualifier to be held in Ireland, later in the year.

Chief guest Yubaraj Lama, member secretary of National Sports Council,  shared his wishes to the team and said if you will, you can. Morale is the main thing, if you have a good morale you can handle the pressure. With a good bunch of players, the hopes are high, Lama added.

“We have made our best in the preparation. The players have got a high motivation, they have spirit to win which is for obvious important”, coach Jameel Ansari said. As this is a step towards the World Cup, we need to prove that we are capable and we need to play our best. Over a month, the team have practiced together and the team will be working as a unit. He further added.

Meanwhile, captain Rubina Chhetri is confident of putting the best performance. “We have trained hard and we hope to bring good results. Its a big tournament. So we will play responsibly and give cent percent performance”, Chhetri added.

Nepali squad comprises of Rubia Chhetri(C), Mamta Thapa, Neera Rajopadhyay, Karuna Bhandari, Sonu Khadha, Sarita Magar, Nary Thapa, Roshani Bohara, Shilu Rijal, Madhu Thapa, Sobha Ale, Indu Verma, Sita Magar and Trishna Singh.

Amrita Poudel is the manager of the team and Shanta Rai will serve as physio.
