CAN case to be withdrawn

KATHMANDU: Former national cricketers Aamir Akhtar, Manoj Baisya and three others decided to withdraw the case against the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) yesterday.

The group had moved the supreme court against the cricket governing body in April demanding CAN elections, transparency in its all financial dealings and decentralisation of the cricketing activities.

The group said the plans of the withdrawal spurred from decision of the ad-hoc commitee of CAN to conduct their general assembly and to provide monthly allowance to the national cricketers.

The general assembly of the ad-hoc committee has been set for December 18, while a month ago CAN decided to provide the national team members with monthly allowance of Rs 5,000.

“Apart from holding elections and providing the players with money, the ad-hoc committee has also assured us of decentralising cricket as soon as possible.

“Since all of our demands are closed to get addressed, we will no longer fight in the court,” said Aamir. Aamir also informed they have asked their lawyer to start the withdrawal procedures.
