CAN confirms Dasanayake as the cricket coach

Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) is all set to appoint former Sri Lankan Test player Pubudu Bathiya Dasanayake as national coach for six months.

If confirmed, Dasanayake — who played 11 Test matches and 16 one-dayers with Sri Lankan team will take over the job from October and ACC Twenty20 Cup to be held in Kathmandu in December will be his first assignment.

“We have confirmed Dasanayake as the new coach and he will most probably come to Nepal in the last week of September,” said Binay Raj Pandey, President of CAN after a central committee meeting. “We have offered him $5,000 per month along with accommodation”, he further added.

“If we fail to reach agreement with Dasanayake, we will approach English-born Pakistani Aftab Habib,” informed Pandey.

After Roy Luke Dias’s departure, CAN assigned Jagat Tamata with the responsibility and the home-grown coach led Nepal to two international events — second place finishes in ACC U-19 Elite Cup in Thailand in February and ICC U-19 World Cup Qualifiers in Ireland earlier this month.
