Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) on Thursday handed over the monthly allowances to the senior national team members amidst a function at Soaltee Crowne Plaza.
Earlier in November, the body had decided to provide the cricketer with the monthly allowance of Rs. 5000 each.
For the first time, CAN awarded central contract to the players. CAN awarded the eighteen players with the allowance of the six months, ten players who represented Nepal in ACC Twenty20 Cup in home and ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers in UAE received RS. 15,000 each as allowance while the remaining eight who were the part of the both or any of the squads received Rs. 15,000 each.
Skipper Paras Khadka, vice captain Gyanendra Malla, Sanjam Regmi, Basanta Regmi, Mehboob Alam, Sharad Vesawkar, Amrit Bhattarai, Anil Mandal, Prithu Baskota and Pradeep Airee represented Nepal in both the touraments.
Subash Khakurel, Rahul Vishwakarma, Binod Das, Binod Bhadari were the team members of the ACC Twenty20 Cup while Krishna Karki, Chandra Saud, Paresh Lohani and Shakti Gauchan participated in the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers held in UAE.
Meanwhile, CAN awarded the members of the Nepali team that finished seventh in the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers with Rs. 10,000 each. CAN also decided to honor the U-19 squad that qualified for the ICC Under 19 World Cup with Rs. 10,000 each. CAN General Secretary Ashok Nath Pyakurel sai “The players will be handed over the amount during the camp for the World Cup that will start in a couple of days.”
“We will continue with the allowance to these players and decide further on for new contracts. We will evaluate the performances and their discipline on making further decisions.” Pyakurel added.
National Sports Council Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama handed over checks to the players.
“This is only the starting to encourage players. We will continue with the contracts and work to increase the reward sum.”said Tanka Aangbuhang, CAN president. Angbuhang also apologized for not being able to provide the allowance to players in time.
Meanwhile, Aangbuhang announced ´Cricketers Welfare Fund´ with seed money of Rs 1 million. He also revealed that the body is working to set up a temporary cricket academy at Tribhuwan University Stadium.
