China Glorious Against an Insensible Nepalese Women’s Team

Nepal ended its Asian Cricket Council Women’s Twenty20 Asia Cup 2012 on a disappointing note, being defeated comprehensively by China in their final Group match. Nepal, already knocked out of the tournament with defeats in the previous two outings against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, had yet another sorry day in the field with both bat and ball.

Team Nepal was slightly different from the last match with two debutants Shova Ale and Mamta Chaudhary in the team. This game was the first international outing for both the players.

Nepal won the toss and decided to bowl first. The Chinese team obliged to Nepal’s ordinary bowling performance with handsome 92 for the loss of two wickets in 20 overs. Player of the match Zang Mie top scored for China with 44 n.o. off 60 balls with 4 fours, her personal best at International Level.

Chasing 92, Nepal were bowled out for just 47 with only one batsman touching the double digits. China was equally helped defending the total when half of the Nepalese team decided to run itself out. Insensible batting highlighted Nepalese innings with not just the run outs and mix ups but also unintelligent shot selection by the batsmen.

One run out in the sixth over and two back to back in the seventh over including Nepal’s top scorer  Sita Rana Magar for 10,  in span of 6 balls and just a run,  meant that Nepal was 16-3 and  on verge of certain defeat. The fourth wicket for China also came as a run out, when Bohora Roshini (2 runs), got into an awkward mix up with Sonu Khadka in the 10th over. The fifth wicket (first for Chinese bowlers) came right next ball, when Khadka 8, missed a straight one from Zhou Haijie and was judged leg before. Nary Thapa remained not out on 7 as entire team crumbled for mere 47 off 19 overs.

Zhou Haijie and Han Lili picked up two wickets each, and Wu Juan picked up one, Zhou Haijie with incredible figures of 4-1-5-2. Neera Rajopadhyay was the fifth batsmen in the team to be run out.

Earlier in the first innings, China made steady start and lost its first wicket with 14 runs on board. Opener Sun Meng Yao was bowled by Nepalese captain Rubina Chhetri for 7. China lost its second wicket on 49 when Rajopadhyay bowled Sun Huan for 11 in the 11th over.  Huang Zhuo remained not out for 22 and added an unbroken 43 runs partnership with Zang Mie.

With this loss, Nepal has ended the tournament win less and on bottom of the Group. This is the first win for China against Nepal, Nepal had won all (two) of the previous encounters.
