Cricket receives Rs 50m Budget in 2070/2071

Budget for Nepali Cricket

Cricnepal/Kathmandu – Finance Minister Shankar Prasad Koirala announced Rs 50 million for the construction of Mulpani and Bhairahawa cricket grounds on Budget session for fiscal year 2070/2071 yesterday.

Government of Nepal has allocated Rs 1.265 billion for the Ministry of Youth and Sports in this fiscal year. The amount is almost double the budget allocated last fiscal year.

Similarly, The government has allocated Rs 510 million for development of sports infrastructure in the budget for the fiscal year 2070/71.

Announcing the budget, Finance Minister Shanker Prasad Koirala said the government has allocated Rs 300 million for the infrastructure development for the 13th South Asian Games(SAG) which include constructing international standard stadium, multipurpose covered hall and Sports Academy.

The government has also separately allocated Rs 210 million for continued development of sports infrastructure. The budget has also mentioned setting up High Altitude Sports Training Centres in Jiri and Lukla.

“I am extremely happy that the government has finally realised the importance of sports. The budget is still not enough and until the government allocates five per cent of the country’s total budget, Nepali sports will not take proper height,” said the National Sports Council Member Secretary Yubaraj Lama.
