Day 2: Nepalgunj and Baitadi record comfortable wins

Region no. 6(Baitadi) vs Region No. 9( Dhangadhi)

Captain Prem Tamang’s magical figures of 10-3-14-4 and Yogendra Karki’s 58 runs helped Baitadi defeat Dhangadi by 54 runs and record their first win in U-19 national tournament. Meanwhile, Dhangadi’s chance of moving further to the next round looks uncertain as they lost thier second match in as many matches.

Batting first, a 92 runs partnership for the 8th wicket from Yogendra Karki (58 runs) and Arun Airee (28 runs) ensured Baitadi put a fighting total of 178/10 in 50 overs. At one stage, Baitadi were reduced to 83/7 in the 26th. Dhangadhi made 5 run outs in the game which reflects that Dhangadhi were superior in the field. Apart from those run outs, Naresh Bohara and Bhim Sarki and picked up 2 wickets each for Dhangadhi.

In reply, Dhangadhi couldn’t cope with hostile bowling attack of Baitadi and were bundled out for 124 runs. Prakash Saud remained not out on 20 for Dhangadhi and U-16 national team member Rabi Chand top scored with 24 runs off 38 balls. Kamal Airee and Arun Airee also grabbed 2 wickets each for Baitadi.

Region No.5(Nepalgunj) vs Region No.2( Birgunj)

Nepalgunj made it two wins out of two matches as they thrashed Birgunj by 24 runs today in a match played at Pulchowk EngineeringGround, Pulchowk.

Nepalgunj won the toss and batted first. They lost their first wicket in the 4th over . U-16 national team wicket keeper failed for the second time with a person score of 6 runs. Rabindra Sahi and Raj Bir Singh then added 53 runs for the second wicket before Sahi was bowled by Isrshad Ahmmed in the 17th over. After Sahi’s wicket, no other batsman could make a impact in the game and they were bundled out for 145 runs in 43.5 overs
.
Jitendra Yadav and Pawan Sharraf picked 3 wickets each for Birgunj whereas Irshad Ahmmed and Rijan Dhakal grabbed two each.

Birgunj respond strongly and were placed perfectly at 101/4 in 22.3 overs for a win. But the introduction of Abinash Bohora proved vital as they lost their remaining six wickets for 21 runs. Abinash destroyed the lower order picking 4 wickets and he was equally supported by Akash Bista who also took four wickets. Ravi Kumar Shah and Bikram Basnet added 29 runs each for Birgunj.

With this win Nepalgunj stands at the top of the table with four points whereas Baitadi and Biratnagar stands second and third respectively with a win each in Group B. Dhangadhi and Birgunj are yet to record a win.
