Two Nepalese superstar cricketers, Sandeep Lamichhane and Dipendra Singh Airee, are set to battle against each other in the final of the Global T20 League 2023. This is the first time two Nepalese players will play against each other in the final of the international franchise league.
Sandeep Lamichhane’s Surrey Jaguars topped the table and defeated Vancouver Knights in the first Qualifier to secure a spot in the final.
Meanwhile, Dipendra Singh Airee’s Montreal Tigers, who finished in third position in the table due to less NRR, defeated Brampton Wolves in the Eliminator and stunned Vancouver Knights in the second Qualifier to confirm the meet-up with Jaguars in the final.
Either Lamichhane or Airee, one of the Nepalese players, is set to win the trophy. But this isn’t the first time a Nepalese player will be in the GT20 champion team. In 2019, Sompal Kami was with the Vancouver Knights, who secured the title.
The final is set to be played Today (August 6) at CAA Centre, Brampton. The match starts at 9:45 PM (NST), and you can watch live on Star Sports as well as on YouTube (YT channel – T Sports).
Sandeep Lamichhane’s performance:
Lamichhane’s performance has been excellent. He has bagged 11 wickets in seven matches and ranks fifth among the leading wicket-takers. His economy of 4.96 is the best in the tournament (at least five overs bowled).
Lamichhane recorded the best bowling figure of 4-0-6-3 and also bagged his first-ever POTM award in the tournament. He has received three ‘Moment of the Match’ awards too.
Dipendra Singh Airee’s performance:
Airee, participating in his first-ever international franchise league, has excelled in all three aspects. The allrounder has scored 127 runs from five innings and ranks in the 12th position of highest run scorer. Averaging 31.75, Airee has built the partnership every time his team were on the verge of collapse. His strike rate and boundary-hitting capabilities are a concern.
Airee has bowled in three matches (total of six overs) and pocketed two wickets with a good economy. He has shown remarkable skills on the field, contributing with three run-outs and making numerous good catches. He was once awarded ‘Moment of the Match”.
