Gyanendra Malla and Rohit Paudel join APF Club ahead of PM Cup

Former captain of the Nepal cricket team and ex-cricketer Gyanendra Malla has joined the Armed Police Force (APF) Club as a coach ahead of the Prime Minister’s Cup, starting from Saturday, January 13.

“We have appointed Gyanendra Malla as the coach,” confirmed Bijay KC, the APF Sports coordinator.

Malla, who retired from international cricket last year, was also part of APF club before moving to Bagmati Province.

Likewise, the APF Club has also enlisted Rohit Paudel, the current Captain of Men’s team. Paudel, who previously played for the Tribhuvan Army Club in domestic matches, will also serve as the captain.

“Both the captain and coach are new, bringing new energy to the team”, added KC.

The APF club has consistently built a strong squad in the past, appointing players like Paras Khadka, Gyanendra Malla, Sharad Vesawkar, and Shakti Gauchan.

Sharad Vesawkar was leading the APF team until last year, but he left the club to join the Kathmandu District.

Meanwhile, Rohit had also played for the APF Club before. In 2018, he represented the club and led the team to victory in the final of Prime Minister’s Cup.

In addition to Rohit, the APF club includes national team members such as Aasif Sheikh, Abinash Bohora, Sundeep Jora, and others. Players who have represented the national team, including Pradeep Airee, Bhuvan Karki, Mausam Thakal, and Kamal Singh Airee, are also part of the team. Sumit Maharjan, Amar Rautela, Lokesh Bam are also in the squad.

The APF club is yet to announce its lineup for the Prime Minister’s Cup, which begins on Saturday, according to KC. The APF will play its first match against Bagmati Province on Sunday.
