Hong Kong, UAE, and Afghanistan register easy Wins

Cricnepal/Kathmandu: Hong Kong UAE and Afghanistan along with Nepal have registered easy wins in their first match of the ACC T20 Cup, on the first day of the tournament today.

Last year’s finalist Hong Kong defeated Malaysia by 6 wickets and UAE beat Kuwait by 5 wickets in the matches played at Pulchowk Cricket Ground, while Afghanistan defeated last year’s second runner up Oman by 44 runs.

Irfan Ahmed guides Hong Kong to Glory

Hong Kong defeated Malaysia by 6 wickets with 8 overs to spare in their first match of the tournament played at Pulchowk Engineering College Cricket Ground thanks to a blistering 87 off 39 balls from Irfan Ahmed.

Batting first Malaysia were knocked over for mere 103 as Tanwir Afzal and Nizakat Khan bagged two wicket a piece. Brothers Irfan Ahmed and Nadeem Ahmed bagged wicket a piece-Irfan gave only 9 runs away in the eight overs. Ahmed Fiaz top scored for Malaysia with 22 runs while captain of Malaysian team Sushan Kumar and Shafiq Sharif made 18 and 19 respectively. None other batsmen were able to reach the double digit mark as Malaysia crumbled for a low score.

Chasing a small total player of the match Irfan single handedly guided the team to victory with 87 which included 6 sixes and 10 fours. KH Durrani bagged three wickets for Malaysia.

Rohan Stars in UAE win

UAE chased a massive total of 173 to defeat Kuwait in a highscoring game played at Pulchowk Engineering College Cricket Ground.

Batting first Kuwait posted 172 thanks to scorching opening partnership of 69 of in 4.5 overs. Opener Yasir Idrees made 46 of 33 balls and Amir Javed made 29 of 14 balls. Batting at number 9 Shaad Kaleed made 36 of 19 balls to push the score past 170. Fayyaz Ahmed bagged 3 wickets for UAE giving only 16 runs of his four overs.

In reply UAE had a shakey start losing opener Bhyaktiyar Hamid in the first ball. The middle and lower middle order of UAE batted sensibly all contributing decent runs in the teams total. Amjad Ali top scored with 39 for UAE. Abdur Shakoor made 32 of 24 balls while Swapnil Patil  and Rohan Mustafa scored 35 each. Mohamed Raza contributed 20 as UAE got to the total with 7 balls to spare.

Rohan Mustafa was rightly adjudged the man of the match for his all round performance, a wicket in the first innings and 35 of just 19 balls in the second.

 Nabi’s All round performance ensures Afghan Victory

Afghanistan defeated Oman in their match by 44 runs. Batting first Afghanistan posted a total of 150 runs on the board before getting all out in the first ball of 20th over. Opener Karim Sadiq top scored for Afghanistan with 46 of 27 balls while captain of Afghan team Mohammad Nabi made 32 of 21 balls. Najibullah Zadran contributed with 29 of 18 balls. Amir Ali grabbed three wickets for Oman, Rajeshkumar Ranpura, Zeesah Maqsood and Hemal Mehta grabbed 2 wicket a piece.

Chasing 151 Oman were tumbled over for just 104. Mohammad Nabi 4 wickets were vital for Afghanistan victory. Shapoor Zadran and Nasim Baras gave Afgahnistan ideal start with the ball getting rid of two openers early. Nabi swept through the middle order while Fazal Rahman and young sphearhead Aftab Alam cleared the tail with 2 wickets each.

Vaibhav Watengaonkar top scored for Oman with 31,Adnan Ilias made 21 and Amir Kaleem made 14. None of the other batsmen got to double digits giving Afghanistan a convincing victory..
