Host Classic off to flying start

The ´A´ and ´B´ teams of hosts Classic International College registered comfortable victories in the Spice Classic T-20 Inter-college Cricket Tournament on Tuesday at the TU Cricket Ground, Kirtipur.

The ´A´ team of the hosts beat Nepal Engineering College by 97 runs while the ´B´ team defeated Kantipur City College by 17 runs.

In the first match of the day, the ´A´ team of the hosts won the toss and scored 178 runs losing seven wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Surendra Chand scored 34 runs off 29 balls, which included four boundaries, to help his team post a huge total. Man-of-the-match Naresh Budhayer scored 28 runs off 18 balls with six fours. Rahul Bista, Ashish Singh, Umesh Karki and Pradip Thapa took a wicket each.

Tight bowling from Budhayer and Prem Uprety helped the hosts´ team restrict Nepal Engineering College to 81 runs. Uprety took three wickets in his spell of 1.5 overs conceding 13 runs. Budhayer took three wickets in his two overs giving away 12 runs. Rahul BK and Krishna Karki took a wicket each.

In another match, Classic ´B´ won the toss and opted to bat first. With 36 runs off 30 balls from Kiran Budhamagar, they posted 126 runs losing seven wickets. Abishek Jha scored 27 runs off 20 balls with four boundaries. Rabindra Dahal took two wickets of Kantipur City in his four-over spell conceding 17 runs.

Man-of-the-match Ranjan Niraula took four wickets as Kantipur City could manage only 109 runs in 20 overs losing eight wickets. Shibu Budhathoki was the highest run scorer for the losing side with 31 runs off 27 balls.
