ICC directs CAN to prepare for European tour

Kathmandu – The International Cricket Council (ICC) has directed Cricket Association of Nepal to start preparing for the upcoming ICC World Cricket League Championship (Round 4) matches against Netherlands scheduled for August.

Tim Anderson, the ICC Head of Global Development had sent an email to the stakeholders of Nepal Cricket on June 5 and directed CEO of Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), Bhawana Ghimire to start the preparation.

According to the sources, the ICC email was sent to Elected CAN President Chatur Bahadur Chand, CAN President of ad-hoc committee, Ramesh Silwal and National Sports Council.

“A two-member selection committee comprising Skipper Paras Khadka and Coach Jagat Tamata will prepare the national squad for the two matches against Netherlands”, the letter said.

Likewise, Former Indian cricketer Raju Venkatapathy will assist the selection committee as an Advisor.

ICC has also assured to provide the funding for the preparation and the upcoming tour.

Nepal team is set to travel to UK to play friendly match against Marylebone Cricket Club on July 19 and will travel to Netherlands to play two matches on August 13 and 15 for the Round 4 of the ICC World Cricket League Championship.

Earlier, National Sports Council had also announced to Prime Minister’s Cup, a two-day cricket tournament in mid june. The two-day cricket tournament will work as selection tournament for the senior team ahead of their europe tour.
