India thrash Australia by an inning and 132 runs

India has terrifically started the Border-Gavaskar trophy registering a mammoth win against the visitors, Australia. The home side were victorious by an inning and 132 runs in Nagpur.

India completed the win after wrapping the Aussies for a mere 91 runs, their second-lowest total against India. Ravichandran Ashwin’s fifer demolished Australia as they were bowed out in just 32.3 overs, basically a single session. Mohammad Shami and Ravindra Jadeja bagged two each, while Smith was the man to remain not out for 25.

Australia didn’t have the start they wanted after being bowled out for 177 runs in the first inning, choosing to bat first. Jadeja picked up a fifer with his partner in crime, Ashwin grabbing three. Labuschagne scored the highest 49 runs for the Aussies.

India replied back sensationally, racking up 400 runs and gaining the lead of 223 runs. Rohit Sharma scored a century and became the first Indian skipper to score a ton in all three formats. The hosts were 240/7 before two southpaws, Jadeja (70) and Axar Patel (84), added 88 runs for the eighth wicket. Debutant Todd Murphy bagged seven wickets for the Aussies.

Ravindra Jadeja was adjudged as player of the match for his all-round show. He was also found guilty of a Level 1 offence as per the ICC Code of conduct. He applied the cream on his left index finger for swelling without the umpire’s permission during the first innings and got a demerit point for it while also being fined 25 percent of his match fee.

The touring side will look to bounce back in the second match at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, starting on 17th February.
