India win a thriller after Bracewell’s jolt

India has grabbed a narrow win against New Zealand in the first ODI at Hyderabad despite posting 349 on the board. New Zealand were 12 short after Michael Bracewell’s sensational inning.

Requiring 20 to win off Shardul Thakur in the final over, The southpaw smashed a six followed by a wide. However, Thakur trapped him LBW with a brilliant yorker to seal the win.

It seemed to be over for the Kiwis after losing the sixth wicket in the 29th over with just 131 runs on the card. Bracewell then added 162 runs for the seventh wicket with Mitchell Santner (57 from 45 balls). Bracewell smacked 146 from 78 balls with 12 fours and 10 biggies.

Mohammad Siraj was the pick of a bowler for India with a spell of 10-2-46-4. Shardul Thakur and Kuldeep Yadav also grabbed two wickets each.

Earlier, Opting to bat first, India racked up 349 runs after a sole effort from Shubman Gill. Gill hammered 208 runs, with the second-highest score being 34 from his opening Partner Rohit Sharma. In a record-breaking inning, Gill smacked 19 fours and nine sixes. He became the youngest-ever player to notch up a double ton in ODI.

Daryl Mitchell and debutant Henry Shipley picked up a couple of wickets each for the Black Caps.
