Indian Ambassador’s Cricket Cup from Feb 19

Kathmandu – Shangri-La Cricket Academy with support from Cricket Association Nepal (CAN) is organizing the Indian Ambassador´s Cricket Cup  which is scheduled to begin in Tribhuwan University Cricket Ground, Kathmandu from February 19.

The winner of the tournament will receive Rs. 150,000 while runner-up will be awarded with Rs. 100,000. This tournament is the highest cash prize T20 tournament in Nepal. Previous edition of National Twenty20 Cricket Tournament organized by CAN had a prize of Rs. 125,000 while the winner of 50 over format bagged the purse of Rs 150,000.

The six teams are divided into two pools, with winner from each pool moving to the finals. The participating teams are the five development regions: Eastern, Central, Western, Mid-Western and Far- Western Development Regions. The 5 teams will be joined by the departmental side Nepal Armed Police Force Club.

The transportation charges and the daily allowances will be provided by Indian Embassy. The players will receive a daily allowance of Rs. 800 more than (Rs. 400) that CAN provided during the national games.

Man-of-the-series will be awarded Rs 25,000 while man-of-the-match in each match will get Rs 2,500 while man-of-the-final will receives Rs 5,000.

General Secretary of CAN, Ashok Nath Pyakurel, said that the tournament will be a warm up for the players ahead of the national games to be held later this month .  The tournament will also add up more practice to the men’s senior national team ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers to be held in UAE from March 13-24 this year, said Pyakurel.

Apurva Shrivastav, first secretary of Indian Embassy, said that they will continue to sponsor the tournament every year. President of CAN Tanka Aangbuhang expressed the sincere thanks from the association and said that the tournament is very positive towards development of cricket in Nepal.
