Kathmandu claims R-3 U-19 Selection Trophy

Cricnepal/Kathmandu: Kathmandu claimed the title of the Wai Wai U-19 Regional Selection Tournament for Region Number 3 maintaining hundred percent winning record after they recorded a 89 runs victory over Lalitpur today.

In form Kathmandu scored a big 272 runs at Engineering Ground, Pulchowk losing six of their wickets in 40 overs as man of the match Bibhatsu Thapa remained unbeaten at 111 runs with twelve boundaries and two sixes. Prakash Bista scored 60 while Som Pal Kami and Sharad Khadka manged 40 and 31 runs respectively for the winners. Kamal Sapkota claimed two wickets while Pritam Thapa, Biraj Tandukar and Jung Bahadur Chhetri shared wicket apiece for Lalitpur.

In reply, Lalitpur was restricted to 183 runs. Pawan Shrestha top scored with 75 runs while Adil Khan’s 34 runs was the only another notable innings from Lalitpur side.

Aashish Pokharel snatched four wickets, Sharad Khadka and Nabin Kumar Yadav grabbed two wickets each while the Som Pal picked one for Kathmandu.

Meanwhile in the second match, Bhaktapur sidelined Nuwakot in a low score match to finish as a runner up of the tournament . Batting first, Bhaktapur made 90 runs in 27.3 overs and then restricted Nuwakot to a mere 31 runs in 13 overs.

Som Pal was adjudged the best batsman and the player of the series for his magnificent allround performance while Prakash Bista from Bhaktapur claime the best bowler award.

Wai Wai Under 19 National Cricket Tournament begins from Friday at Kathmandu.
