Kathmandu register second victory; Lalitpur tharash Nuwakot

Kathmandu/Cricnepal: Lalitpur and Kathmandu registered victories in the second day of the ongoing Wai Wai U-19 Regional Cricket Selection Tournament for Region Number III Kathmandu at T.U. Ground on Wednesday.

In a first match Lalitpur registered a huge victory of 127 runs against Nuwakot while in the second match Kathmandu defeated Bhaktapur by 69 runs.

Nuwakot who chose to field first on winning the toss restricted Lalitpur to a good total of 163 runs for all wickets in 26.1 overs. Paswan Shrestha top scored with 56 runs from 52 balls with six boudaries and also shared a 76 runs partnership for second wicket with Ujwal Thapa who scored 28 runs off 21 balls including four fours. Thupten Lama scored 15 runs while Sharad Khadka made 14 runs, the other double digit contributors for Lalitpur.

Man of the match Rajesh Shrestha had a fantastic bowling where he grabbed five wickets in his 6 overs spell conceding only 25 runs. Kumar Sherpa picked up three wickets while Karan Khatiwada and Rajkumar Karki shared wicket apiece.

Nuwakot continued with their poor batting display as they had to be bundled under a very low 36 runs in just 11 overs. Beside Karan Khatiwada none of the batsman made double digit figure. Khatiwada scored 14 runs off 11 balls. Six of the batsman were duck out.

Kamal Sapkota picked up four wickets for Lalitpur while Thupten Lama, Jeeba Lal Bhattarai and Ujwal Thapa shared two scalps each for the winning side.

In an another match played, Kathmandu posted a good total of 168 runs in loss of four wickets after deciding to bat first on winning the toss.

Ayush Jung Rana, the top scorer shared a partnership of 118 runs for third wicket with Sumit Lama. Rana scored 59 runs off 70 balls that included four fours and a six. Sunam Gautam made 53 runs off 40 balls including seven fours and a six before being caught out. Robin Joshi remained unbeaten at 24 runs.

Purusottam Jha grabbed two wickets while Rajan Karki and Nafeez Sheikh shared a wicket each for Bhaktapur.

In reply, three wickets from Prajesh Bahaur Singh, two wickets from Bijay Gautam and a wicket each from Nupur Pandey, Sunam Gautam, Prem Bista and Jagat Chhetri helped Kathmandu to restrict Bhaktapur to 99 runs in 23.5 overs for all wickets.

Jeevan Lamshal top scored 16 runs, Sujan Basnet scored 15 runs while Rajan Karki added runs. None of the other batsman made double digit score.

Sunam Gautam was awarded the man of the match.

After Wednesday’s game, Kathmandu top the standing with two wins out of two while Lalitpur and Bhaktapur stand second and third respectively with a win each. Nuwakot is still winless.

On Thursday, Lalitpur will face Bhaktapur in the morning while Kathmandu will play Nuwakot in the noon at the same venue.
