Mumbai Indians thrash LSG to secure second qualifier spot

Mumbai Indians thrashed Lucknow Super Giants at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, in the Eliminator match to secure a spot in the second qualifier of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Mumbai Indians, the most successful franchise in the history of the IPL, will now face off against the Gujarat Titans in a bid to reach the final and challenge the mighty Chennai Super Kings.

Opting to bat first, Mumbai Indians set a competitive total of 182/8 on the scoreboard. Cameroon Green played a blistering innings, smashing a 23-ball 41 to propel Mumbai’s innings. Surya Kumar Yadav contributed 26 runs, while Nehal Wadhera provided a quickfire knock of 23 towards the end of the innings.

Naveen-ul-Haq was the standout bowler for the Lucknow Super Giants, picking up four crucial wickets. Yash Thakur also made an impact, claiming three wickets.

Chasing a target of 183, Lucknow Super Giants faltered and were bundled out for just 101 runs in 16.3 overs, falling short by a substantial margin of 81 runs. Despite being 69/2 at one stage, the Lucknow team lost their way and suffered a collapse, losing eight wickets for a mere 32 runs. The second innings witnessed three run-outs due to mix-ups while running between the wickets. Akash Madhwal starred with the ball for the Mumbai Indians, grabbing an impressive five-wicket haul while conceding just five runs (3.3-0-5-5).

Mumbai Indians have an illustrious history in the IPL, having featured in six finals and clinching the trophy on five occasions. They will face Gujrat Titans in the second qualifier on May 26 at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
