Nepal defeated Oman to register their second win in the ICC WCL Division 3 Cricket in Bermuda by 28 runs. Losing the toss and put into bat first Nepal posted low score of 160 runs but Nepal’s spinners won the game for Nepal restricting Oman to 132 runs.
Nepalese batsmen made a really slow start. Losing Shubash for just 1 the team was under early pressure. The top and the lower middle order completely failed today.
Gyanendra Malla batting at number three eased theearly pressure a bit scoring 34 of 49 balls. Binod Bhandari top scored for Nepal with 35 from 50 balls while Paras and Veswarkar added 27 and 28 respectively. Nepal in the end could only manage 160/9 in 50 overs as none other batsmen got past single digits.
Chasing 161 Oman gave Nepal early scare staring very steady but at a rate enough to win. At the end of 10 over Oman were 31/0. Nepal however started making inroads into the Oman batting. S Regmi picked up the first wicket getting rid of set batsmen Ajay Lalcheta for 24. Ramesh was next to fall. With 2 quick wickets Oman immediately went into the back foot and at end of 20 overs were just 45/2. Basanta dismissed Jatindra to get Nepal the third wicket at 68 runs. The 4th wicket added 31 steady runs, but after losing the captain Wategoankar for 27 Oman’s inning started falling. Tight spin bowling from Nepalese bowlers meant they were always behind the required scoring rate.
Oman eventually tumbled for 132 runs in 46.4 overs giving Nepal 28 run victory.
Nepalese spinner ran through Oman’s batting line up picking up 6 of the 7 wickets that fell to bowlers. The other three batsmen gave their wicket away in an attempt to up the ever slow scoring tempo and got Run Out. Basanta bagged 3 wickets and had the most impressive figure 9-5-18-3. Sanjam grabbed 2 wickets, while Shakti Gauchan and Prithu got a wicket a piece.
With the win Nepal has 4 points from 4 games. Nepal’s fate will hugely rely on how Bermuda plays against USA. Nevertheless even if USA loose Nepal have to beat Italy by significant Margin to get in the FINAL.
