Nepal clinches Quadrangular T20I series title with a victory over Hong Kong

The Nepalese national women’s cricket team has clinched the title of the Quadrangular T20I series held in Malaysia. Nepal women defeated Hong Kong women in the final to lift the trophy.

Nepal, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Kuwait participated in a T20I Quadrangular series in Malaysia ahead of the Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier 2023.

In the rain-halted match, the Nepalese side were triumphant by 13 runs from the DLS method. Inviting Hong Kong to bat first, Nepal restricted them to 101/6 at the end of 20 overs.

Ka Ying Chan scored the highest 29 runs (from 45 balls) for Hong Kong. Marina Buonocore and Shanzeen Shazad contributed 19 and 14 runs.

For Nepal, Khusi Dangol was the pick of a bowler. She grabbed three wickets from three overs, conceding 20 runs. Kabita Joshi and Ashmina Karmacharya also pocketed one wicket each.

In response, Nepal were 37/1 in 5.3 overs, with Sita Rana Magar and Indu Barma batting at run-a-ball 13 and 19 runs, respectively. Kajal Shrestha was sent back for a golden duck.

A further match was not possible due to the bad weather, and the Nepalese side were adjudged victorious based on the DLS method.

Nepal started the tournament with a win against Kuwait, followed by a victory against Hong Kong. Host – Malaysia defeated Nepal in the last match. However, Nepal topped the table due to a better NRR.

Nepal’s allrounder Indu Barma was adjudged player of the series.
