Nepal Cricket Team receives heroic welcome

Nepal Cricket Team was hugely welcomed in Tribhuwan International Airport after they returned home with a ICC World Cricket League Division 4 Trophy on Tuesday.

Nepal lifted the title defeating USA by 8 wickets in the final and it is the major trophy Nepal have ever won in the foreign soil. Nepal’s earlier major trophy was ICC World Cricket League Division 5, which Nepal won in Kathmandu defeating the same USA by 5 wickets.

Cricket Association of Nepal(CAN) president Tanka Angbuhang, member secretary of the National Sports Council(NSC), Yubaraj Lama, CAN members, NSC members, hundreds of fans, and media members welcomed the team in a grand way.

Reamining unbeaten in all six matches, winning all six man of the match trophies, prove how good we are now. We had a good preparation. We made a great effort and we have got a good result, said captain Paras Khadka. It is not that that we play World Cup within a year or more, we will have to go through different conditions, increase our practices. We are not that far from the World Cup, added Paras.

Paras also requested government to make investment in cricket. We played like a Division I team and we deserved all the wins. If everything goes according to our plan and we receive good support from government, private sectors and everyone, we will be a team to defeat soon, said Pubudu Dassanayake, the team coach.

Meanwhile, Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) announced to provide the team members with Rs 30,000 each as reward. The executive committee meeting of CAN held on Tuesday took the decision stated the press release. CAN has also asked the government and National Sports Council to provide cash incentives to the players.

Nepal’s current ICC global ranking is 25.
