Nepal defeats Iran; enters semis

Cricnepal/Kathmandu – Nepal defeated Iran by 167 runs in the league match of ACC U-16 Elite Cup 2012 at Malaysia today and entered the semifinal.

Nepal won the toss and opted to bat first at Bayuemas ground. Half centuries from Aadil Khan (71 runs off 82 balls, 6 fours) and blistering innings from Jagdish Chand (51 runs off 27 balls, 4 fours, 4 sixes) guided Nepal to pile up a mammoth 246 runs with the loss of eight wickets in 40 overs. Irani bowlers couldn’t stop the flow of runs till the end of the inning and gave 33 extras as well. Afshin Tiredast & Javed Tarkhan took two wickets each.

Meanwhile, Kalicharan Yadav(6-1-12-4) and Akash Bista(8-2-20-4) rattled the Irani chase and tattered them for just 79 runs in 28 overs. Only the Opener Aslam Javam managed 21 runs while the other top scorer was 27 extras. With last wicket in hand, Iran had to declared the match after Zobeir Afarin, the tailender hurt himself and couldn’t continue his batting.

Aadil Khan was adjudged the Man of the Match for his well compiled inning of 71 runs.

With three consecutive victories, Nepal entered the semi-final stage of the tournament. They will now play their last league match against the host Malaysia on Wednesday, at Kinrara Oval. Both the team have entered in the semis after three wins from group B.
