Nepal leads the group A; faces Thailand in the semis

Cricnepal/Kathmandu – Nepal continuous its dominance in ACC Women’s Championship tournament defeating Hongkong by 6 wickets in their last group match played at Prem Oval ground, Thailand.

Nepal secured the win while chasing the modest total of 54 runs in just 18 overs losing 4 wickets. Nepal had few hiccups at the start of the chase as both the openers were duck out. Madhu Thapa was bowled by Mariko Hill while Sita Magar was run out.

Roshani Bohara who was successful in earlier matches also felt the pressure of chasing today and went for 1 run facing 8 deliveries. At that stage, Nepal were tottering down for 6/3 in 3.1 overs. Sarita Magar and Nary Thapa then held the innings together with 33 runs partnership for fourth wicket. But Tam Shun broke the growing partnership as she bowled Sarita out for 14 runs.

Player of the Match Nary Thapa 23*(35 balls, 3 fours) and Skipper Rubina Chhetry 7* (14 balls, 1 four) guided Nepal to their fourth victory in a row with 16 unbeaten runs partnership for the fifth wicket in 18 overs.

Mariko Hill, Ishitaa Gidwani & Tam Shun shared wicket a piece for Hongkong.

Earlier, Nepal won the toss in a sunny day at Prem Oval ground and invited Hongkong to bat first. Nepali Bowlers once again bowled the right areas and restricted them to 54 runs in 21.4 overs.

The openers Yip Sze Wan 14 (44 balls) and Chan Ka Ying 12 (23 balls) played a watchful innings together. But as the opening stand of 23 runs was broken, the Hongkong’s wicket felt like a nine pins. From 23/1 the collapse continued and ended for 54 runs in 21.4 overs.

Sarita Magar was the pick of the bowlers as she grabbed 4 wickets in 5 overs while, Nary Thapa & Karuna Bhandari shared 3 wickets a piece. Karuna wrapped up the lower orders in just 10 balls giving away just 2runs.

With all four wins in group A matches, Nepal earned 8 points and will face Thailand in the semifinal on 30th January. While, China and Hongkong faces each other in the other semifinal on the same day at Prem Oval.
