Nepal looking to seal Asia Cup spot with a win against UAE

Nepal is playing against UAE in the final of ACC Premier Cup today (May 1, Monday) at TU Cricket Ground. The home side will be looking to beat UAE and secure their place in the Asia Cup.

However, A downpour could spoil a thrilling final match as the weather forecast suggests a good chance of rain near Kirtipur area. There is a reserve day provided for the final. If a final is tied or if there is no result, the teams will compete in a maximum of two Super Overs. In case it is still not resolved, the team which is seeded higher in the tournament seedings will be declared the winner and will qualify.

In that case, Nepal will be declared the winner and book a spot in the Asia Cup. They will join India and Pakistan in Group A of the Asia Cup 2023, which will take place in September. Furthermore, the top three teams of the Premier Cup will also get the opportunity to feature in the ACC Emerging Cup in July.

Hence, Nepal, along with UAE and Oman, are already confirmed to play ACC Emerging Cup. India A, Pakistan A, Sri Lanka A, Afghanistan A, Bangladesh A and the top three teams of the Premier Cup will battle in the tournament.

Only seven teams have featured in Asia Cup so far. If Nepal manages a win in the final, they will be the eighth nation after India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Hong Kong and UAE to participate in Asia Cup.

Nepal defeated UAE in the last match of CWC League 2 to secure a place in the World Cup Qualifier. A record crowd was present at TU Cricket Ground. Almost the same crowd is expected to witness the match this time also. The match starts at 9:00 AM (NST) and will be broadcasted live by Kantipur Television.
