Nepal loses in a exciting match against Canada

Nepal suffered a 18 runs defeat to Canada in the ICC World Cup Qualifiers Match at Sharjhah Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.

After the loss, Nepal are out of the world cup qualifying race. From the updates points table, Nepal is now placed to the fifth position PNG being ahead due to the net run rate.

Nepal needing a win by a huge margin or ealry chase went onto field after they lost the toss.

Magical bowling once again from the Nepali bowlers saw them restrict the giant Canada to a low 101 runs in 20 overs. Canada lost 6 wickets in posting the target.

Rizwan Cheema was the first victim to be bowled by the tournament leading wicket taker Shakti Gauchan. Cheema was bowled for 15 runs where he played 10 deliveries playing some three fours.

On the very next over, pacer Chandra Sawad bagged the wicket of Ruvindu Gunasekara.

For Canada, man of the match Jimmy Hansara remained top scorer with being unbeaten at 29 runs off 34 delivieries that included a six. Tyson Gordon was the next batsman with the score of 15 runs. Hiral Patel and Nitish Kumar each added 13 and 11 runs respectively.

Captain paras Khadka and Chandra Sawad picked up two wickets each while Shakti Gauchan and Basanta Regmi shared wicket apiece for Nepal.

In reply, Nepal needed 102 runs to win within 12.3 overs to qualify to the next round.
Three wickets from Junaid Siddiqui and a wicket each from Zahid Hussain, Harvir Baidwan and Jimmy Hansara restricted Nepal to 83 runs in 18.2 overs, the target which eventually seemed defendable for Nepal.

Though having the flying start, Nepal kept on losing wickets quickly which after led to a 18 runs defeat.

Opening pair Anil Mandal and Pradeep Airee put Nepal in a good position to 21 runs for no wickets in third over. In the very first ball of the fourth over, Anil Mandal was bowled for 15 runs. Mandal faced 14 balls in his play with hitting 2 fours.

Prithu Baskota who entered to bat at number 3 was sent cheaply at 2 runs. Paras Khadka with the score of 2, Pradeep Airee with the score of 8, Paresh Lohani with the score of 6, Shakti Gauchan with the score of 10, Chandra Sawad with the score of 1 run were the other victims.

Sharad Vesawkar only scored 28 runs off 35 balls with a four before being run out for a last wicket in the second ball of nineteenth over.

Afghanistan, Netherlands and Canada have progressed to the second win from group A while from group B, Namibia, Ireland and Scotland had made it to the second round.

Nepal will play against Kenya for the seventh place play off on 22nd. Other teams to play for the seventh place play off will be PNG and Italy.
