Nepal national and U-19 team to play a crucial match against UAE on Thursday

Nepal national cricket team and U-19 cricket team will both be facing UAE simultaneously on Thursday, March 2.

Nepal U-19 are set to play against UAE U-19 in the fifth and last match of the U-19 World Cup Asia Qualifier. Both teams have won their previous four matches. Hence the clash is the indirect final of the tournament. The winner will seal the spot in the upcoming U-19 World Cup.

The Nepalese youth team are unable to feature in the mega event since 2016. Nepal missed out on the 2020 edition after a painful one-run loss on the D/L method against UAE itself. Nepal were in a comfortable position to win the match before rain halted after restricting UAE to 122/3 in 30 overs, setting a target of 248.

Nepal were unlucky in the 2022 edition too, as the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced that the Americas, Asia, and EAP regional qualifiers had all been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, UAE once again advanced ahead.

Nepal, this time has a good opportunity to take revenge for the previous painful exits defeating UAE in the last match.

Nepal national team, on the other hand, will face UAE in a very vital match of the CWC League 2 at Dubai International Cricket Team. Nepal must win six of the remaining seven matches to finish in third position on the points table, which will seal a direct spot in the World Cup Qualifiers. They are yet to play four matches against UAE and three matches against PNG. Two each against both teams will be played on TU Cricket Ground.

Champions Scotland and Oman are already qualified for the tournament to be played in Zimbabwe. Namibia are in the third position with 39 points from 36 matches. UAE and Nepal are in sixth and fifth position with 29 and 28 points respectively.
