Nepal secures third Position defeating Hongkong

Cricnepal/Kathmandu – Nepali Women’s Team defeated Hongkong in the 3rd/4th Playoff Match at Gymkhana to secure third position in the ACC Women’s Championship 2013.

Nepal won the toss and elected to field first in a rain delayed match which later on reduced to 19 overs per side. The pitch was damp and the outfield was wet and Nepali bowlers exploited the condition very well today.

Hongkong had a terrible start losing two wicket for 8 runs in 2.1 overs. Only their opening Wicketkeeper batter Yip Sze Wan (12 runs) scored in double digits. Four batters didn’t even trouble the scoreboard. The second highest scorer was the 10 extra runs given by Nepali bowlers.

Hongkong never recovered from the early loss and could only manage 32 runs in 19 overs losing 9 wickets. Player of the match – Nary Thapa was the pick of the bowler as she managed three wickets ang just one run in her 3 overs.

Rubina Chhetry took two wickets while Karuna and Sonu Khada shared wicket apiece.

Nepal started their chase cautiously.  Openers Shova Ale (8 runs,12 balls, 2 fours) and Sita Magar (10 runs, 23 balls, 2 fours) had 24 runs partnership for the first wicket. Tam Shun bowled Shova Ale in 5.1 overs & broke the partnership and later took the wicket of Sita Magar as well.

Indu Barma (4*) and Sarita Magar (1*) then guided Nepal to eight wickets victory in just 7.3 overs. Nepal secured the third position after this win but unfortunately didn’t qualify for the World Cup Qualifiers.
