Nepal start with easy win

Kathmandu/Cricnepal: With a brilliant batting display from Nurdhoj Sen and Kushal Bhurtel and a bowling display from Kali Charan Yada Nepal started the AACC U-16 Elite Cup Campaign with a win against Kuwait by a huge 78 runs today.

At the Bayuemas Oval Ground, Kuala Lampur, Malaysia, Nepal opted to bat first and posted a 179 runs losing all wickets in 32.4 overs before bowling Kuwait all out for 101 runs in 32.4 overs.

Nepal lost skipper Dipendra Chand cheaply with just 11 runs on the board. Shashi Mishra(10), Adil Khan(4) and Aashif Sheikh(4) failed to perform with the bat and Nepal had to struggle at 75-4 by 13th over.

Nurdhoj and Kushal led a highest partnership of Nepal’s innings with a 27 runs before Nurdhoj was run out in 18th over. Nurdhoj made a 58-ball 47 with six fours while Kushal scored 54-ball 35 with four boundaries. Later, Akash Bista(11) and Kalicharan Yadav(12) lifted Nepal’s total to 179 from 159-9.

Morshed Sarwar picked up four wickets for Kuwait, Saideep Yarapureddy picked up two while Fazlur Rehman, Meezan Ali and Abdul Iftikhar shared a scalp each.

In reply, Nepal had a perfect start after reducing Kuwait to 23-3 inside six overs. Kalicharan picked up two of them.

Faizan Sadiq and Saideep Yarapureddy solidated the Kuwait’s innings with a brilliant 65-run stand for the fourth wicket. Shashi Bhushan proided an important breakthrough for Nepal taking a return catch of Faizan in 24th over.

Kuwait then lost their six wickets in just 13 runs as Sashi trapped Saideep leg before wicket, reducing Kuwait to 93-5. Saideep scored 34 runs off 64 balls with four fours while Faizan made 59-ball 27 with three fours. Kalicharan picked up two other wickets of the middle order while Jagdish Chand also had a scalp. Akash Bista claimed three wickets.

Kalicharan Yadav with the figure of 4-12 was adjudged as man of the match. Nepal will take on Bahrain at the Kinrara Oval Ground on Sunday in their second match.
