Nepal to host T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier

Nepal is set to host the Asian region’s qualification tournament for the T20 World Cup Qualifiers. Two teams will book a spot in T20 World Cup from the qualification.

The president of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has officially announced that Nepal has been awarded the opportunity to host a cricket tournament from November 1 to 10. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has already approved and entrusted Nepal with this responsibility.

“On Wednesday, the ICC sent us an official email to confirm the news. Additionally, they have communicated the information regarding the host nation to the other participating teams. According to the email, the ICC has requested additional services at the Mulpani Cricket Ground. We have ample time to fulfil these requirements, and we are committed to completing them,” Chand said, as per eKantipur.

The upcoming Twenty-20 World Cup will be co-hosted by the USA and the West Indies in June 2024, featuring twenty teams, with 12 already confirmed. The remaining eight teams will earn their spots in the mega event through the qualifiers from different regions.

The Asia Qualifiers will have eight teams competing for two spots in the upcoming T20 World Cup, with two teams from the sub-regional tournament joining Nepal, Oman, Hong Kong, UAE, Bahrain, and Singapore in the regional final. The teams will be divided into two groups, and the top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals. The victorious teams from the semifinals will secure their spots in the highly anticipated mega event, where they will compete for the ultimate championship title.

All regions’ hosts have been confirmed after Nepal is given the responsibility of the Asia region. ICC has already unveiled the schedule and fixtures for the qualifying matches.

Recently, Nepal successfully hosted the ACC Premier Cup at TU Cricket Ground and Mulpani Cricket Ground. They displayed exceptional performance by defending their title on their home soil. Their victory in the tournament has earned them a place in the upcoming Asia Cup, where they will be competing alongside India and Pakistan in the same group.
