Nepal U16 crowned 2019 ACC Eastern Region Champions

Kathmandu – Nepal U16 defeated Malaysia U16 by a margin of 59 runs in the final of ACC U-16 Eastern Region tournament in Thailand today.

Nepal posted a challenging total of 140/9 in their 35 overs after winning the toss in the final game at Prem Tinsulanonda International school ground.

Prashant Mahat was the top scorer for Nepal as he smashed five boundaries for his 40 runs in 67 balls. Opener Deepak Bohora contributed 23 runs whilst Skipper Bishal Bikram Kc added 17 runs. Late down the order, Nikhil Kumar Singh scored vital 13 runs and 10 extras from Malaysian bowlers helped Nepal managed a decent total on the board.

Sachinu Hettige did most of the damage clinching three-wickets in his 7 overs. Likewise, Jinendra Muraly claimed two wickets with two maidens in his 7 overs. Ahmad Akmal Alif, Muhammad Amirul Asraf, Sidharth Karthik and Sharveen Surendran took wicket apiece.

Meanwhile, Malaysia U16 struggled from the start of the second innings. They lost half of their side within 15 overs (37/5).

Muhammad Haziq Aiman and Jinendra Muraly added 28 runs for the eighth wicket to rescue the early damage. Aiman top scored with 18 runs whilst Muraly added 14 runs. But it was already late for them, as they collapsed for 81 runs in 34.5 overs

Bishal Kumar Patel and Deepak Bohora, the two opening bowlers for Nepal had a great outing today, clinching 7 wickets between them. Pacer Patel (7-1-18-4) was the pick of the bowler as he ran over four opposition’s wicket.
