Nepal U16 Team secures semifinal spot with a commanding win over Malaysia

The Nepal Under-16 Men’s National Team have bagged a back-to-back win in the ACC U-16 Eastern Region Tournament. Nepalese side thrashed Malaysian U16 team by 84 runs at Bayuemas Oval, Bangi. Ashok Dhami was the star of the match with a brilliant all-round performance.

With a win, Nepal has booked the semifinal spot topping Group A. The Nepalese side were victorious by massive 225 runs against Thailand in the previous match.

Chasing a target of 184, Malaysia never were in the driving seat in front of Nepal’s brisk bowling attack. They were three down for 26 in the eighth over. Despite being 81/4 at one stage, the home side lost six wickets for 18 runs. As a result, they were wrapped up for 99 runs in 30.5 overs, falling short by 84 runs.

Ashok Dhami – the first inning’s hero, was the pick of a bowler as well, grabbing four wickets. Captain Abishek Tiwari grabbed three wickets, whereas Santosh Yadav grabbed two.

Earlier, Nepal posted 183 runs before being bowled out in 33.4 overs. Opting to bat first, Nepal were struggling with a four-wicket down for 60 runs. The situation worsened, with Nepal down to 91/7 in the 22nd over.

Ashok Dhami then rescued Nepal with a brilliant half-century. He hammered a 36-ball 52 with three fours and five sixes before falling as the final wicket. Naren and opener Suryanshu Koirala also contributed 29 runs each.

For Malaysia, Haziq Haiqal, Muhammad Akram, Areean Aqeel and Muhammad Muqri picked up two wickets each.
