Nepal U19 arrives home

Kathmanndu/Cricnepal: Nepal U19 players and officials arrived home today after participating in the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup at Australia. Players and officials were welcomed by CAN members, media persons at Tribhuwan International Airport.

Nepal team produced the worst result ever in the U19 world cup history where they lost first four matches in a row in the tournament. Nepal lost to Australia by 212 runs, Ireland by 14 runs, England by 126 runs in group stage and to Sri Lanka by 8 wickets in 9th place play off quarter final match.

It was the sixth appearance for Nepal and Nepal finished 13th after beating Namibia by 39 runs and Papua New Guinea by 6 wickets. Nepal had entered the tournament as 12th ranked team.

Only few of the players including, Rahul Vishwakarma, Bhuwan Karki, Sagar Pun and Subash Khakurel performed well. The tournament so far remained an bitter one.

Beside, Rahul’s bowling records and Subash’s good form, there was no much to be remembered of the tournament. Rahul picked up 13 wickets to remain as the third highest wicket taker while opener Subash Khakurel scored 155 runs in the tournament that included a half century against England.

Coach Pubudu Dassanayake, Prithu Baskota and Subash Khakurel left to Sri Laka today itself for joining the preparation camp for the ICC World Cricket League Division IV. Meanwhile, Subash Khakurel and Pradeep Airee will join the teal in September 1 at Malaysia.
