Match Summary – Nepal 185/7 in 46.2 overs (Sunil Dhamala 47; Rory Anders 2/22) Ireland 184/10 in 47.4 overs(Gary McClintock 45; Lalit Rajbansi 4/36)
Ireland slumped from 107/2 to 184 all out thanks to Lalit Rajbansi’s 4 wickets. Earlier after losing 2 early wickets – Tector(6) and Dennison(10) both to medium pace off Aarif Seikh, Andrew Austin and Gary McClintock had recovered well for Ireland adding 76 runs for the third wicket. Austin was the first to depart caught by Prem Tamang off Lalit for slow 44 from 94 balls.
Gary McClintock was bowled by Dipendra Airee for 45 runs off 58 balls. Gary’s innings included 6 boundaries. Gary was out on 32nd overs with team’s total on Nelson. With 6 wickets remaining Tucker and Gary’s twin brother William McClintock played their shots and added 35 runs from 5 overs. William scored 20 from 22 balls with help of 3 fours before getting caught off Rajbansi. Things started to astray after William’s departure. Gillespie who had scored half-century in the previous match to script incredibly come back for Ireland departed for 6.
Tucker and Anders added 20 runs for the 7th wicket. Tucker was run out for 33 from 36 balls. The tail was cleaned up quickly Tom Stanton(0) was trapped lbw to Rajbansi. James Mitchell(2) was bowled by Aarif Sheikh and Varun Chopra(0) was bowled by Dipendra Airee.
Lalit Rajbasni starred with the ball for Nepal with figures 10-1-36-4. Aarif bagged 3 wickets from his 8 overs giving away 21 runs and Dipendra Airee got 2 wickets for 20 runs from 5.4 overs.
In reply, Nepal started in nearly the same way as Ireland. After losing two early wickets – Sunar(0) and Yogendra(11); Sunil Dhamala and Raju Rijal added 47 runs for the third wicket. Damala made 47 runs with the help of 6 boundaries from 71 runs. Raju was out 6 overs later adding 28 runs with Rajbir Singh with team’s total of 110. He made 35 runs from 56 balls.
It was a see-saw match from there – Nepal kept losing wickets to put Irish win in context but contributions from Rajbir Singh(16), Aarif Seikh(21), Dipendra Airee(26) and Saurabh Khanal(16*) made sure the weight was in Nepal’s favour. The 7th wicket stand of 28 runs from 4.3 between Airee and Saurabh was pivotal in adding weight on Nepal’s end.
Saurabh Khanal finished things in style for Nepal hitting Gillispie for six to propel Nepal to yet another U-19 World Cup.
