Kathmandu – Following the conclusion of the ICC Board meetings in Dubai today, Nepal and Zimbabwe have been readmitted as ICC Members.
However, Nepal were reinstated as an ICC member, but on a conditional basis. The governing council suspended the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) in April 2016 for breach of the ICC’s regulations which prohibit government interference and require free and fair elections.
Following the central election of a 17-member working Committee and the successfully conducted Annual general meeting of CAN, earlier this month, the ICC readmitted the Cricket Association of Nepal.
“Given the progress made in Nepal, a transition plan will now be developed for the Cricket Association of Nepal to support full compliance with Associate Membership criteria, which will also involve controlled funding,” ICC Chairman Shasank Manohar said in an ICC statement.
Similarly, Zimbabwe are also readmitted by the ICC board following a meeting with the ICC chairman Shashank Manohar, Chief Executive Manu Sawhney, Zimbabwe Cricket Chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani, Zimbabwe Sports Minister Kirsty Coventry and Gerald Mlotshwa, the Chairman of the Sports and Recreation Commission.
Zimbabwe were suspended in July 2019, following government interference in the running of Zimbabwe Cricket.
