Nepali U-19 Cricket team leaves for Malaysia

Kathmandu/Cricnepal: Nepali U-19 Men’s National Cricket Team left Kathmandu on Thursday to participate in the ACC U-19 Asia Cup scheduled to be held in Malaysia from June 23 to July 1.

Cricket Association of Nepal(CAN) on Thursday bode farewell to the 19 member team headed by Chatur Bahadur Chand amidst a function at National Sports Council(NSC). Member Secretary of NSC, Yubaraj Lama, CAN President Tanka Angbuhang and other CAN members attended the function and shared the best wishes to the team. CAN also bode farewell to Binay Kumar Jha, international cricket umpire from Nepal, who will officiate the tournament.

Addressing the function, CAN president Tanka Angbuhang said,”We need to win the game mentally. Half of the game depends upon your mentality, so be prepared and take it easy, feel that we have won the game. Though playing against the test nations like India, Pakistan will be a kind of pressure for us, we have nothing to loose. So we hope you will give your cent performance.” The training was good, we saw a lot of improvements. We hope to bring some more programs in future, added Angbuhang.

CAN vice-president T.B. Shah expressed wishes and shared motivational phrases. “Play to your own, use your brain, have patience, win is ours” he said.

Yubaraj Lama, the member secretary of NSC expressed his warm wishes said “You need to have the spirit to win. Carrying the national flag, playing in the national jersey is a great achievement itself. You are the luckiest among the thousand youths who take up cricket.” You need to be free from the psychological barrier. Take no pressure, play for your country, you will perform the best, Lama added.

Skipper Prithu Baskota shared his excitement of playing the asia cup against the test nations like India and Pakistan. “We are not in the pressure, but it is India, Pakistan who will be in pressure to play against us”, Baskota said.

“We have prepared the plans, made strategies and hopefully if we can do as we have planned, we can defeat anyone. As every U-19 teams are in a same state, if we can make use of the perfect chances, we can turn the result to our side. Our boys have been toiling hard and we hope we will have a better outcome of that.”, national cricket coach Pubudu Dassanayake said.

The Nepali U-19 team led by captain Prithu Baskota is grouped along with India, Pakistan and Malaysia for the 50 overs per side tournament. The top two teams from the pool will progress to the semi finals.

Nepal team includes Prithu Baskota (Captain), Pradeep Airee, Rajesh Pulami, Sagar Pun, Naresh Budhayer, Krishna Karki, Avinash Karn, Subash Khakurel(WK), Fazlur Rahman, Bhuwan Karki, Hasim Ansari, Rahul Vishwakarma, Gopal Kumar Singh, Saurabh Khanal, Ramnaresh Giri, manager Chatur Bahadur Chand, assistant manager Bipat Ram Chaudhary, Coach Pubudu Dassanayake and Physio Jang Bahadur Thapa.

The current squad includes the four new faces in the team. They are Hasim Ansari, Gopal Kumar Singh, Saurabh Khanal and Ram Naresh Giri.

Nepal is playing Pakistan on June 23 before taking on Malaysia on 24th. Nepal will lock horns with India on June 26.
