Nepali women’s team lose opener

Kathmandu/Cricnepal: Sri Lanka defeated Nepal by 20 runs in its opening match of the ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup being held in Guangzhou, China on Thursday.

Winning the toss, Sri Lanka elected to bat first but struggled to Nepali bowlers and managed a below par score of 78 runs losing 8 wickets. In reply, Nepal scored only 58 runs losing 9 wickets.

Shashikala Siriwardene scored 23 runs while Sandamali Dolawette and Dilani Manodara contributed 11 and 15 runs respectively in Sri Lanka’s innings. Eshani Kaushalya (8) and Chamari Ataputtu (7) were other scorers.

Rubina Chhetri claimed four wickets, Sonu Khadka took two wickets while Sarita Magar and Karuna Bhandari picked up wicket apiece for Nepal.

In reply, Sita Rana Magar scoring nine runs remained the highest scorer for Nepal. Nepali batswoman struggled for runs, and none of them fought with a good inning. Neera Rajopadhyay (7), Nary Thapa (6), Indu Barma (5), Sarita Magar (5), Karuna Bhandari (5),  Sonu Khadka (4), Rashmi Chaulagainn (2), Roshani Bohara (1), Rubina Chhetri (1) and Mamata Thapa (1) were the other scorers for Nepal.

Sri Lankan skipper Shashikala Siriwardene and Sandamali Dolawatte took two wickets each.

Nepal will play Bangladesh in a next match on Friday.
