ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier

Netherlands qualify for Cricket World Cup 2023

The Netherlands Cricket team has qualified for the Cricket World Cup 2023. They will be the only associate team competing in the 10-team tournament in India.

The Netherlands needed to defeat Scotland in a crucial by a fair margin to equal points with the Scottish team and edge them in the NRR. Bas de Leede was the star for the Netherlands at the Queens Sports Club to seal the spot in the Cricket World Cup 2023.

Scotland posted 277/9 after the end of 50 overs. Hence, the Dutch side needed to chase the target within 44 overs, and they did so in just 42.5 overs.

Bas de Leede picked up a five-wicket haul to restrict Scotland to 277, and de Leede himself smacked 92-ball 123 to turn the match in Netherlands’ favour. He became the only fourth player to pick up a fifer and score a century in a single ODI match.

The Dutch side started the tournament with a defeat against the home host Zimbabwe. They then defeated USA and Nepal. In the final group stage match, they stunned West Indies in dramatic fashion in a super over to go to Super Six Stage with two points.

They faced a loss against Sri Lanka in the first match of the Super Six stage and bounced back well to defeat Oman and Scotland to qualify.

This is the fifth time the Netherlands have qualified for the Cricket World Cup. They previously played in the prestigious cup in 1996, 2003,2007 and 2011.
