NMB Lifts 14th Soaltee Super Sixes Cup

Kathmandu/Cricnepal: NMB have won the 14th Edition of Soaltee Super sixes beating Century bank by 19 runs in the final, held at Tribhuvan International Cricket Ground, Kirtipur.

The semi final and the final matches of the tournament were held today. NMB defeated Indian Embassy and Century Bank defeated Nepal Bank Limited in their semi final matches to reach the final.

NMC vs. Indian Embassay – Semi Final-I

NMB defeated last year’s runner up Indian embassy by 23 runs in the first semi final. Batting first NMC put up a score of 73 runs losing just one wicket. Mohan KC and Rabindra Chand contributed 34 and 26 respectively. In reply Indian Embassy were tumbled over for mere 50 runs, as Bishnu Prasad Poude claimed 3 wicket for NMC.

Century Bank vs. Nepal Bank Ltd – Semi Final-II

Nepal Bank Ltd kneeled to an excellent bowing display by Century Bank, three of their five bowlers going for less 6 runs an over as Nepal bank posted mere 39 runs on the board in 5 overs. Openers Abhya Rana(32) and Sakar Lal shrestha(6) guided Century to easy victory in only three overs .

Both teams came into the finals with easy wins against their opponents in the semi final.

Winning the toss and batting first NMB put on board 69 runs losing 3 wickets. Rabindra Chand scored an important 36 of 14 balls for NMB. Bikash Shrestha and Bishnu Tiwari picked up a wicket a piece for Century. In reply Century were resstriced to 50 runs. In the middle three overs century could only get 19 runs and cost them 2 wickets. Sakar lal shrestha and Samir Shrestha gathered 18 runs of the last over but that could only carry the total to 50, giving NMC a 19 run victory .

Bank of Asia’s Amit Shrestha was declared best bowler of the tournament who grabbed 6 wickets in 4 matches he played.

Rabindra Chand who scored 189 runs in 6 matches and also bowled 6 overs for NMC grabbing a wicket and giving away an acceptable 45 runs was declared the best batsmen and the player of the tournament. (only performance upto the quarter final was looked into to judge the best batsmen and bowler, Rabindra Chand had scored 107 runs in those 4 four matches). Chand also received the prize for the maximum number of sixes hit by a player with 15 sixes in the tournament.

Nepal Life Insurance received the fair play award.

Prizes to the winners were given by Chief Guest Lila Mani Poudel (Chief Secretary of Government of Nepal), Mr. Lal Shankar Ghimire (Joint Secretary of Government of Nepal), Mr. Nalin Mandiratta (General Manager of Hotel Soaltee Crowne Plaza), Tanka Aangbuhang Limbu (President of CAN), Bishnu Hari Dhakal (President of Broadcasting Association of Nepal)

There were no cash prizes for team or individual; the winning team received a trophy and the individual performers received gift hampers.
