No Nepalese players shortlisted in the IPL auction

Sandeep Lamichhane

None of the players from Nepal have been included in the shortlisted candidates for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) player auction. Despite the considerable excitement surrounding the potential inclusion of Nepalese players in the IPL auction, it is unfortunate to note that none of them have been selected.

On Sunday, December 11, the shortlist for the 2024 IPL Player Auction was revealed, featuring 333 players slated to be up for bidding. Among them, 214 are Indian players, and there are 119 overseas players, including two from associate countries. Netherlands’ Paul van Meekeren and Namibia’s David Wiese are the only two players from the associate nation to make the cut.

Sandeep Lamichhane stands as the only Nepalese player to feature in the IPL auction and play IPL. In 2018, Delhi Daredevils (now Capitals) bid for him for INR 20 Lakhs. However, the franchise released him in 2020. Despite being shortlisted in both 2021 and 2022, he remained unsold in the auction.

The IPL 2024 auction, taking place in Dubai on December 19, marks the first instance of the auction being held overseas. The proceedings will commence at 2:30 pm IST (1 pm local time). Notably, this event will also witness the inclusion of a live audience for the first time.
