One Associate Nation confirmed to battle in Cricket World Cup 2023

The 10-team Cricket World Cup 2023 in India will see one Associate nation battle in the tournament. Zimbabwe’s defeat against Scotland confirmed the inclusion of one Associate in the main event in India.

One of Scotland or the Netherlands will book a ticket to India. Scotland currently has six points, while the Netherlands have four points. These two sides will face each other in their final match. Only one of these two sides will be able to secure a coveted spot in the upcoming Cricket World Cup.

The upcoming match between Scotland and the Netherlands on Thursday, July Six, will determine the fate of both teams. A victory for Scotland or any match abandonment will secure Scotland’s place in the Cricket World Cup 2023. However, the Netherlands will need a significant win to improve their Net Run Rate (NRR), which currently stands at -0.042, in order to have a chance of qualifying. Scotland, with an NRR of 0.296, holds a favourable position going into the crucial match.

Sri Lanka has already sealed a place in the World Cup. Meanwhile, Zimbabwe’s unfortunate trend of falling short at the final hurdle in the Qualifiers continued, as they once again missed out on a spot in the 2023 World Cup. Similar to the 2018 Qualifiers, Zimbabwe faced the task of winning one of their last two matches, but unfortunately, they were unable to achieve victory, repeating their 2018 outcome.

No Associate team qualified for the Cricket World Cup 2019 in England.
