Kathmandu – Nepal Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai handed over the cash prize of Rs. 200,000 each to the members of the Nepali U-19 Women’s Cricketers on Saturday at his residence at Baluwatar.
Nepal Government earlier had made an announcement to reward the team who had won the ACC U-19 Women’s Championship for the third consecutive time.
Speaking in the ceremony Bhattarai promised of his support to sports sector of the country. “Sports unite people and we have seen it”, he added.
“The team has got the national heroines. We have our heads held high from the girl’s performance. We are in search of more national heroes and heroines at this stage when we are going through different crises,” added Bhattarai.
Expressing his interest in Cricket and calling himself as a cricket fan, Bhattarai said that cricket has a good scope in Nepal. He also said that government will look upon this scenario and try to develop every game.
The ceremony was joined by Youth and Sports Minister Kamala Roka, President of Cricket Association of Nepal(CAN) Tanka Angbuhang and other members from CAN.
Rubina Chhetri expressed her thanks from the team to the government and said the award will help to play better.
The awarded were the 14 players, coach and manager.
Meanwhile, Nepal National Cricket Team left for UAE on Saturday evening to participate in the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers to be held from March 13 to 24. Nepal will play against Hong Kong in the first match in 13th.
