Nepal Police sail through to final in their debut tournament

The Nepal Police Club Women’s Cricket team, in the 9th National games, their debut tournament has booked a place in the final.

Nepal Police defeated Bagmati Province in the second semifinal match to ensure a battle against APF in the final of Women’s cricket in the ongoing ninth national games.

Invited to bat first, Nepal Police posted 123/4 in the allotted 20 overs. Kabita Kunwar and Kajal Shrestha added 70 runs for the opening wicket before Kabita was sent back for a sluggish 26. Kajal scored 46 (from 51 balls), whereas skipper Rubina Chhetri (17*) and Kabita Joshi (14*) added quick runs at the end. Asmina Karmacharya, Khusi Dangol, and Suman Khatiwada picked up one wicket each for Bagmati.

Bagmati never looked stable against a vigorous bowling attack as they were restricted to 87/8, losing by 36 runs. Suman Khatiwada scored a run a ball 23 while Ashmina Karmacharya and Aarati Bidari added 18 and 11 runs, respectively. Kabita Kunwar was adjudged as player of the match for her all-round performance; she picked up three wickets, conceding just six runs in the second inning. Ishwari Bista grabbed a couple of wickets, whereas Rubina Chhetri and Sangita Rai pocketed a wicket each.

Nepal Police Club grabbed a historic Gold Medal in Men’s Cricket, and the Women’s team are now just one match away from clinching the Gold. Police and APF will battle for the Gold on 18th October at Pokhara Rangasala.

APF Club topped Group ‘A’ and defeated Lumbini Province in the semifinal. Nepal Police Club, on the other hand, topped Group ‘B’ and defeated Bagmati Province in the semifinal.
