Sandeep Lamichhane extends his wicket-taking run to 33 consecutive matches

Sandeep Lamichhane has picked up a wicket in 33 consecutive ODI matches for Nepal. Picking up a wicket against UAE in the final of the ACC Premier Cup, Lamichhane stretched the streak to 33.

Lamichhane broke the record of Brett Lee’s 26-match streak against PNG on March 3 2023. Australia’s fiery pacer picked up a wicket in 26 consecutive matches between 2009 and 2011. Nepal’s star leggie last went wicketless in an ODI match against Oman at TU Cricket Ground on February 9 2020.

West Indies’ Ian Bishop (1993-1996) and Afghanistan’s Hamid Hassan (2010-2015) also managed to pick a wicket in 25 and 24  consecutive matches, respectively.

Recently, Sandeep Lamichhane became the fastest bowler to reach 100 ODI wickets surpassing the record of Rashid Khan. Lamichhane achieved the feat in just 42 matches, beating Khan’s record of 44 ODI matches.

The 22-year-old is the first bowler to reach 100 wickets and Nepal’s highest wicket-taker. He has grabbed 104* wickets from 43 matches.

Nepal qualified for Asia Cup 2023 after defeating UAE on the reserve day of the ACC Premier Cup final. Sandeep Lamichhane picked up two wickets (10-2-34-2) in Nepal’s seven-wicket win.
