Sharad shines with a ton on English soil

Kathmandu – Nepal’s influential middle order batsman Sharad Vesawkar is in the limelight these days in the National media. Whether it is about the Citizenship Issue or it’s about playing for an Indian Club. And now he’s been sensational in the past few weeks by his batting performances for his club Jayshree of India.

Sharad, who is a Nepali national team regular and is associated with Nepal APF Club in Kathmandu, joined the Indian club squad in the 10-match friendly series in England from July 19 to August 5.

He is also leading the side for the next six matches. According to him, In a T20 match against Bristol B.C.C, Jayshree scored 147 in 19 overs and he scored 71 runs and took 3 wickets(4 overs) and they won the match by 13 runs.

In the 40 overs match against Malpas Cricket Club, his team scored 225 and won the match comfortably with 75 runs. But he failed in that match with just scoring 11 runs.

But on July 29, He made a mark on the English soil with a 100 to his name. Playing against Pentyrych Cricket club at Cardiff, Sharad scored a match winning inning of 108 not out. With his inning, Jayshree scored 220/7 in 40 overs. They won the match by 38 runs.

In an email conversation with Sharad, he told, “The playing conditions are very different, with lots of grass on wicket. Batting is not easy… but if you stay there runs will come”. “The Englishmen do appreciate players who play well and some of the teams were even doing research and found out that I am a Nepali international through internet. I think we can learn from them that how much they prepare for a club game as well,” he added further.
