Soaltee Super Sixes Kicks off

Kathmandu/Cricnepal: Standard Chartered Bank, Civil Bank, Surya Nepal, Century Bank, Sunrise Bank, Nepal Bank and Sanima Bank registered wins in their respective matches on the opening day of Soaltee Crowne Plaza super sixes, being held at TU International Cricket Ground, Kritipur.

The tournament kicked off first with an inaugural exhibition match between the Chief Secretary XI and Corporate and Media XI. Corporate and Media XI led by chairman of Kantipur Media Group, Kailash Shirohiya beat the Chief Secretary XI lead by Chief Secretary Lilamadi Pokherel by 13 runs. The Corporate and Media XI with help of 21 runs from Nalin Mandiratta, GM of Soaltee Crowne Plaza and 21 more as extras posted 51 runs for loss of two wickets in 5 overs. In reply Chief Secretary XI could only get to 38.

7 matches of the main draw were held today, one match each for each group from A to G, 6 of those seven won by Banks. The first match of group H will be held tomorrow when Bank of Kathmandu takes on last year’s runner up Indian Embassy.

Standard Chartered Bank vs. Morang Auto Works (MAW) – Group A

In the first match of the main draw Standard Chartered Bank defeated Morang Autoworks (MAW) by 11 runs. Batting first Standard Chartered Bank put up 73 runs on the board-Shubash Sharma top scoring for the team with 28 n.o. of 13 balls. Defending the total Standard Chartered bank Restricted MAW to 62/5.

Civil Bank vs. Janta Bank – Group B

Civil Bank defeated Janta Bank by 25 runs in the second match. Civil Bank made 75 runs in five overs and despite Rahmest Mahrajan of Janata Bank added an unbeaten 31, restricted Janata bank to 46/3.

Surya Nepal vs. United Spirit Nepal – Group C

Losing the toss and put into bat first Surya Nepal scored 68 runs for the loss of 2 wickets – Dev Dutt Upadhaya made unbeaten 26 of fourteen balls. Chasing 68 United Spirit Nepal could only get to 58 runs giving Surya Nepal 10 runs victory

Century Bank vs. NIC Bank – Group D

Century eased past NIC with help of batting and bowling heroics of Abhaya Rana; Rana grabbed one wicket giving only five runs while bowling to hold NIC to 63 for two wickets. Chasing 64 Rana scored unbeaten 32 runs of mere 13 balls as Century got to the total in 4.4 overs.

Sunrise Bank vs. Siddhartha Bank- Group E

Sunrise Bank came victorious against Siddhartha Bank. Winning the toss and batting first Siddhartha Bank put up 69 runs on the board in five overs. Sunrise Bank got past the target in 4.5 overs. Rajan K Khagki Scored 33 of 15 balls for Sunrise Bank.

Himalayan Bank vs. Nepal Bank- Group F

Nepal Bank put up a score of 82 runs losing just one wicket. In reply Himalayan Bank could only get 73 runs for loss of 2 wickets. Earlier Samir Giri with 32 n.o. of 10 balls and Shusil Karki  20 n.o. of 7 balls helped Nepal bank put up a huge score.

Sanima Bank vs Nepal Life Insurance- Group G

The final match of the day saw the biggest victory of the day, as Sanima Bank registered a whooping 50 runs victory against Nepal Life Insurance. Winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Sanima scored 99 runs for loss of just one wicket. Sajan Shrestha top scored for Sanima with 31 runs. In reply Nepal Life Insurance only reached 49 runs.

The defending champion Bank of Asia will play their first match tomorrow against Himalayan Bank, 8 matches including this one are set for tomorrow. The League stages of the tournament will last till 7th November; two top teams from each group qualifying for the knock out round i.e. the pre quarter finals of the tournament.
