Trevon Griffith to captain Janakpur Royals

Janakpur Royals has announced Trevon Griffith as its captain for the inaugural season of the Nepal T20.

Griffith, 31, a left-handed batsman from Guyana has played for Guyana Amazon Warriors and Jamaica Tallawahs in the Caribbean Premier League. He also represented the West Indies Under-19 team at the 2010 World Cup in New Zealand.

“My aim is to give Janakpur Royals the trophy of Nepal T20 League,” Griffith said amidst a team announcement and the jersey unveiling function held in Kathmandu on Tuesday.

“Griffith is the best option we have, based on experience,” said Janakpur head coach Umesh Patwal.

Sompal Kami, the marquee player of Janakpur, has been named vice-captain.

Meanwhile, the Royals announced their 17-member final squad including six foreign players.

Chadwick Walton (West Indies), Trevon Griffith (West Indies), Kesrick Williams (West Indies), Ashan Priyanjan (Sri Lanka), Sharafuddin Ashraf (Afghanistan), Samiullah Shinwari (Afghanistan), Sompal Kami, Sundeep Jora, Mohammad Aadil Alam, Dilip Nath, Lalit Rajbanshi, Sushan Bhari, Sagar Pun, Pawan Sarraf, Jitendra Mukhiya, Khadak Bohara and Rajesh Pulami.

Janakpur Royals will kick off their campaign on 24 December against Pokhara Avengers.
